I’m happy that my marathon is in Los Angeles this coming weekend, and not DC, that’s for sure! It’s snowing like crazy out there and isn’t supposed to stop until late afternoon. IMG_5384 Since winter will apparently never end, Matt and I decided to take advantage of the white fluffy stuff and go skiing again over the weekend! Since, you know, going skiing the weekend before your second full marathon is a really smart idea… 😉 Whatever – considering I’m not exactly going to win the race or anything, it seemed silly to say no to fun adventures in the meantime! 20140301_143914 We headed back to Whitetail, where we were a couple weeks ago for the day, but this time stayed for the weekend – we rented a house with a bunch of friends. whitetail ski resort We got up there late on Friday and hit the slopes first thing on Saturday, after a relaxing breakfast in the house. Matt and I brought up a bunch of groceries for the group so we wouldn’t starve. 😉 On the menu: a veggie, egg, and sausage scramble. Yum! I also had an unpictured banana, and then late morning I enjoyed a KIND bar (the KIND almond & coconut bars are my fave) on the slopes. Yes, I need to eat a lot in the mornings. 🙂 IMG_1299 My college friend Sarah, who you’ve seen on here a lot as one of my fave running buddies, joined for the trip, which was great because she is also a more beginner/intermediate skier like me. We let the rest of the group hit up the black diamonds (Matt included – he’s good!) and we stuck to the greens and blues. 20140301_143901 We all rendezvoused for lunch around 1. The lodge actually has a pretty epic create your own salad option – awesome! I got a big one with lots of veggies, chicken, strawberries (love them in salad), some cheese, and balsamic vinaigrette. Hit the spot. Plus some unsweetened iced tea on the side. 20140301_130630 Then it was back to the slopes! We all skied until around 3 or 4 and then headed back to the house to relax for awhile before dinner. Speaking of dinner, in an awesome turn of events, the boys all cooked while the ladies and I hung out and watched them. Now that’s how it should be, right?! 😉 IMG_1300 We all enjoyed some whole wheat pasta with a ground turkey and veggie-packed tomato sauce with some sautéed spinach on the side. So good! IMG_1301 After dinner, we headed out for the most fun part of the whole day: night skiing! We were able to walk back to the slopes from where we were staying which was so awesome. IMG_1302 I’m not sure I’d ever been night skiing before and it was SO fun. The slopes were way less crowded and the whole group of us stayed together and had fun with it. There was a cool little park with jumps and stuff off the side of one of the green slopes and we mostly hung out in there, watching the guys do cool tricks. (It was easy to ski down the side of it.) IMG_1305 Yay night skiing! IMG_1306 What a fun and action packed day. We all slept VERY well on Saturday night, that’s for sure! On Sunday, we cleaned up, headed out, and swung by a cute little place in Hagerstown called Saffron Bakery & Café for breakfast before parting ways. I had an awesome made-to-order ham, egg, and cheese sandwich on a crusty whole wheat bread. IMG_1308 We were back in DC by early afternoon, which was nice. We were happy to see this little face again. 🙂 IMG_5363 Time to get back to work while watching the snow fall. Not gonna lie – I miss the days of no internet when a snow day meant a real day off from work! I’m definitely noticing a lot less emails coming in, though, which means I can focus on getting some things on my to-do list done that I’ve been ignoring for awhile! Hoping to make some time later today for a yoga DVD (I rarely do at home workout DVDs since I love getting out and about for workouts – and our apartment is tiny – but I love this yoga DVD) and a little snow playing time though, too. Have a happy Monday, friends! Is it snowy where you are, too?

No snow here but cold and rainy with sleet later today. Was supposed to get in a swim and bike today but it will be just a swim as there is no way I'm biking in this!

Skiing is always a good idea -- as long as you dont get injured before the marathon! :) Sounds like such a fun weekend getaway!

I haven't been skiing in ages, I miss it!!! Looks like you had a really fun time, I'm also trying to embrace the snow a bit more. It gave me an off day so that's always a good thing :)

Looks like such a great weekend! For once, no snow in northern Massachusetts. The south coast got hit with the storm you had, though.

Well you got through unscathed so yes to fun adventures! Since reintrducing eggs I've been loving veggie loaded savoury breakfasts but haven't quite taken to scrambled eggs yet, poached, fried, omelet, frittata...I need to rectify this with an awesome recipe!

No one believes me when I say I live in Switzerland and have had less snow in Geneva than Atlanta, Georgia. It's crazy! We drive to Verbier to see the snow :)

You were in Hagerstown??! That's 15 minutes from where I grew up! Although, I've never made it to Whitetail...weird. I could recommend a few other good places to eat in Hagerstown though! Never been to Saffron though...

It's snowy where I am too- because I am also in DC lol I have never been to Whitetail but I wanna go so bad. I hear it's a lot of fun! I've never been skiing at all, actually. But I think I would like it. Did you stay on the resort? I wonder what the cabins are like.

Yes, it's snowy here in Tennessee, but not like there. And it will likely be gone by tomorrow, and we have started getting spurts of spring like weather just to tease us along.
